Flying Scotsman on the West Somerset Line
2 days - by coach

Price from £169.95 per person*
Departs 7th Sep 2017

This superb value break takes you to one of the west country's most picturesque areas, the Cotswolds, and includes an exceptional highlight – a ride on a steam train hauled by that most iconic of steam locomotives, Flying Scotsman.

Flying Scotsman came perilously close to being scrapped in the 1960s, but was rescued by a private railway enthusiast, and after time on display in the National Railway Museum followed by years in a repair shed undergoing restoration, the world's most famous steam locomotive was returned to service in 2016.

Flying Scotsman Factfile

  • Built in 1923
  • First locomotive to break the 100mph speed barrier
  • World record (in Australia) for the longest non–stop run, at 422 miles
  • Best known for its green–lacquered livery, but was painted black–out black during the war
  • Starred in its own movie, a 1929 crime thriller called The Flying Scotsman
  • Retired in 1963, after 2.08 million miles
  • Restoration cost £4.2 million
  • Returned to service 2016
